I've checked the forecast, and in my neck of the woods we're going from deep winter to something much more temperate. I kind of hate that when it happens, and it does, every year, although there is some float as to when. I generally regard February as our coldest month. Anybody else looking at freeze / frost warnings for the next couple of nights? I'll be covering my tomatoes, but should I cover my newly-planted roses that I rescued from bLowe's? (I couldn't resist, they were those roses-in-a-plastic-sack but were all very healthy looking, one even had little buds on it - Blaze and Pinata.)

Several years ago I was so anxious to plant that I believed the warm weather in April, and planted before the last frost date for my area, which is April 21. BAD mistake. A cold snap came along a week later and killed everything I'd planted ( Read more... )

We're having a mighty cold snap down here in Texas: temps expected to hit 20F or lower tomorrow and the next night. No one's fruit trees are leaving or budding yet, but we're all wondering if we still need to protect our fruit and citrus trees or if they'll be okay without covering.

I live in Denver, and we're supposed to get up to two inches of snow tonight (that measurement is the predicted accumulation in grassy areas) but there is no frost warning and the temperature is supposed to stay in the mid 30s and NOT get below freezing. Do I need to cover my tomatoes, etc?
